Self Awareness happens through reflection.  You can have a lot of experiences in your life, but still lack self-awareness.  Developing greater self awareness requires that you step outside of your experiences and take time to reflect on them.  Key areas to address when developing self awareness include your personality traits, personal values, emotions, habits, and the psychological needs that motivate your behaviors.
